Sauder Joins MCCL Board

Dean Sauder has been appointed to the board of the Mennonite Children’s Choir of Lancaster.

Sauder holds a B.A. in Music Education from Lebanon Valley College and has taught music in the Manheim Township School District and at Lancaster Mennonite High School, where he currently teaches Bible and theatre and coaches the Odyssey of the Mind team.

Sauder has been very involved in theatre, having performed, directed, and assisted in numerous venues including the Fulton Theatre, Sight and Sound, Lebanon Valley College and the Susquehanna Stage Company. For two and a half years, he toured nationally and internationally with Up With People, an educational organization whose mission is to inspire young people, break down cultural barriers and create global understanding through volunteer service and a musical show.

Sauder has also been deeply involved with missions and church work through Eastern Mennonite Missions that included leading a Youth Evangelism Service (YES) team to Albania.  He and his family currently attend Sunnyside Mennonite Church in Lancaster.

“I have a daughter and a son that sing with MCCL and can't wait for it to start again each season,” Sauder said. “I've been impressed with the program and am excited to take on this new role within the organization.”

His favorite genres of music are classical, show tunes, folk, Celtic and worship. “I also enjoy cooking and baking -- especially pies,” Sauder added.

The 160-voice choir includes Carol Choir (grades 2-5), Concert Choir (grades 6-8), Chamber Choir (grades 9-12) and Men’s Ensemble (males in Chamber Choir).  In addition to the auditioned performing choirs, MCCL offers two non-auditioned classes: Prelude Music (Kindergarten – grade 2) and Choristers I & II (grades  2 – 8).

The mission of MCCL is training children and youth to glorify Jesus Christ through excellent choral singing.  The choir’s repertoire reflects the musical diversity of the Church around the world and through time. The choirs and the Prelude Music program are open to children from all church backgrounds and are sponsored by Lancaster Mennonite School as a service to the community.
